For parents

Assalamu Alaykum, and welcome. Here is how we get to know your child, how we keep you informed, and what to bring on the first day.

Your child's Learning Journey

From the day your child starts, their Learning Journey begins. It holds their personal details, their key worker's written observations and assessments, and the plans we make from them. If staff have any concern, we will tell you as soon as possible.

You can look at it whenever you like: just ask your child's key worker or the nursery management. Please add to it too. Observations from home, photos and news of special occasions are welcome.

We hold parent meetings twice a year to talk about your child's Learning Journey and development.

Your child's key worker

Each member of staff looks after a small number of children as their key worker, supporting any needs they have and getting to know them day to day.

Your child's key worker is your first point of contact about how they are getting on.

Settling in

For many children, this is their first time away from you. Before they start, a member of staff will be happy to go through the All About My Unique Child booklet with you, so we learn what matters to them.

We help children settle at their own pace, so they feel comfortable and sure that you will come back at the end of the session. If you would like to know how your child has settled, you are welcome to phone us during the day on 01254 697960.

What to wear and bring

Children paint, play and get messy, and we spend a lot of time outdoors.

Clothes

Old or inexpensive clothes are best. We provide painting and waterproof aprons, but clothes can still get wet or dirty. Clothing children can manage themselves helps their independence: velcro or buckle shoes are a good idea.

Weather

Always send a coat. In bad weather, add a hat, scarf and gloves. In summer, children need a sun hat to play outdoors.

Names and spare clothes

Please put your child's name on every item of clothing, and leave a complete change of clothes in a named bag.

Food

The nursery does not provide food, snacks or lunch. Please send your child's snack, and lunch if they need it.

Nappies and personal care

Please provide your child's nappies and any personal care items they need.

Keeping in touch

You are a child's first and most important teacher, and we want you to feel part of the nursery.

By phone

Call 01254 697960 to ask how your child has settled during the day.

Newsletters and parent meetings

We send regular newsletters, and hold parent meetings twice a year.

Share your skills

If you have spare time, you are welcome to share a hobby, interest or job the children might enjoy. Fathers and grandfathers as well as mothers and grandmothers are welcome.

Collecting your child

Please tell us everyone you would like to be able to collect your child. We use a password system, and staff will not let a child leave unless the procedure has been followed.

A few things we will ask your consent for

Nothing here happens without your say-so.

Photographs and video

We only take and use photographs or video of your child if you agree in writing, and names are never attached to photos that are displayed.

Sun protection

We offer shaded areas and encourage hats. Staff apply sun cream only if you have agreed to it.

Trips out

Visits, for example to the library or the park, need your consent. If you do not agree, your child is not excluded from anything the nursery does.

If something is not right

We want to hear when something is not right, as well as when it is. Our complaints policy explains the steps.
